Summit Theme: After ten years of reform and innovation on student success…where do we stand and where are we going?

Ten years ago the Lumina Foundation and its partners launched Achieving the Dream (ATD) as the first major national initiative to focus on student success in community colleges.  Building on the early work of ATD, a plethora of national initiatives have sought to increase the rate of degree completion in community colleges with the most prominent being the call by President Obama in 2009 that “by 2020, America will once again have the highest proportion of college graduates in the world, and community colleges will produce an additional 5 million graduates.”  Additionally, in 2011, the Michigan Community College Association, with the support of the Kresge Foundation, launched the Michigan Center for Student Success to support emerging and ongoing efforts at individual colleges to improve student outcomes.  After a considerable amount of activity at the local, state, and national levels, the 2014 Summit will focus on what’s been accomplished, what challenges remain, and how we can work together to continue this important work.
